Purpose of the Resource Guides

More and more citizens in Virginia are choosing to own condominiums, time-share properties, or other properties that have a property owners association.   Citizens may own such property as a place to live, vacation, or as rental property.   These types of properties are refereed to as common-interest communities and impose certain rights and responsibilities on owners, which are not common in other types of property ownership.

Owners and potential owners need to be aware of the additional rights and responsibilities for such common-interest communities. These rights and responsibilities are set out in various state code sections and regulations which can be found on the web at http://www.state.va.us/dpor.   In addition to the current statutes and regulations, four resource guides have been produced to provide practical, easy to use, information on specific topics that address the most common types of questions related to common-interest communities.
