Dr. Vernard Harrington,
Associate Professor of
Management, has been
appointed interim chair of
the Department of
Management. Dr.
Harrington succeeds Dr. Hooshang Beheshti who has
returned to full time
teaching in the department.

More than 100 deans from
business schools across the
South will be in Roanoke
July 13-15 to attend the
2008 Southern Business
Administration Association (SBAA)
Summer Workshop at the Hotel
Roanoke and Conference
Center. The Radford
University College of
Business and Economics (COBE)
will co-sponsor the event
that includes representation
from the Association to
Advance Collegiate Schools
of Business (AACSB), the
premier accrediting agency
for business schools.
The theme of the 2008 workshop is “Affecting Student Satisfaction
Results.” Topics will
include “Strategies to
Enhance Student
Satisfaction,” “Living Lives
That Matter: Experiential
Curriculum” and “Effective
Student Advising Using
Different Models.” To

Gilbert as Dean of the College |

Radford University and
the students, faculty
and staff in the College
of Business and
Economics welcomes
Dr. Faye
Gilbert as
dean of the
College of Business and
Economics. Dr.
Gilbert began her duties
as dean of the college
on June 1, 2008.
Dr. Gilbert comes to Radford University from Georgia College & State
University in
Milledgeville, GA. where
she was dean of the J. Whitney Bunting
School of Business for
five years.
While at GCSU Dr.
Gilbert
was instrumental in
achieving reaffirmation
of accreditation by the
Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of
Business (AACSB) in
2007. Under her
leadership the school
received six best
practice mentions from
the AACSB
peer review team.
Dr. Gilbert has also served as associate dean of the MBA program and
professor of marketing
at the University of
Mississippi. She
was named MBA
Outstanding Professor in
2001 and received the
Elsie M. Hood
Outstanding Teacher
award while at the
University of
Mississippi.
Dr. Gilbert has an extensive publication record with her research
appearing in
such prestigious
publications as the
Journal of the Academy
of Marketing Science,
Journal of Business
Ethics and the Journal
of Business Research.

McGowan Scholarship |

Radford University junior
management major
Juliann Abercrombie
has been awarded the
prestigious McGowan
Scholarship by the RU
College of Business and
Economics. Abercrombie
has been a visible member of
the RU community. She is a
student representative to
the RU Board of Visitors,
the vice president of
student finance in the
Student Government
Association, a committee
member of the Student
Affairs Executive Council
and an international member
of the Society for the
Advancement of Management.
She has received many
university honors, including
the 2008 Outstanding Student
Award and a 2007-2008
Foundation Scholarship.
Abercrombie plans to enroll
in graduate school and work
in the field of human
resources following her
graduation from RU.
